The History.

From what we can ascertain, the stone house was built in the 1880's over a period of quite a few years by an English stonemason, a Mr Stephenson. The greywacke stone used in it's construction was quarried from a rocky outcrop about 200m from the site. The original property was a farm of around 200 acres and was acquired in 1901 by the present occupier's great-grandfather.

Originally there was just the stone house but in 1919 a wooden extension wing with laundry, bathroom, coal shed and toilet plus veranda was added.  Then in 1936 another two rooms were added, one of which which now serves as the 4th bedroom.

The present property was subdivided and the larger part sold in about 1966/7 and for many years was the base for a busy woodwork and wooden toy manufacturing business. Many of the other buildings were constructed during this period with the cottage and office being built around 1987. Quite a lot of upgrading work was done in the kitchen, laundry and bathroom areas in 1990/2.  The house is structurally sound and likely to last at least another 130 years!

At the present time it is the location of a successful web design business and, as mentioned elsewhere, it's a very nice place to live and from which to conduct a home-based business.
